Privacy
Most free receipt-scanning tools ask you to create an account and store your receipts on their servers. Receipt Scanner Free doesn't. Here's exactly what happens to your data.
Free scan (default)
When you use the default free scan, the OCR engine runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly. The receipt image never leaves your device — there is no network request involved in reading it.
Advanced AI scan
When you choose the Advanced scan, the receipt image is sent to our server, which forwards it to our AI provider (Anthropic) purely to extract structured data. We don't store the image or the extracted data on our servers afterward — the response is returned directly to your browser and saved only in your device's local storage. We keep a short-lived, anonymous counter (tied to a hashed IP address, not your identity) solely to enforce the daily free-usage limit, and it expires automatically after 24 hours.
Your expense history
Every receipt, edit, and category you set is stored in IndexedDB, a database built into your browser. It stays on your device, syncs to no account, and is never transmitted anywhere. If you clear your browser's site data, it's gone — which is why we built CSV and PDF export.
What we don't do
- No accounts, no email collection, no login
- No selling or sharing of receipt data — we don't have any to share
- No tracking cookies used to build an advertising profile
